Safety Equipment

The Transceiver Hire Scheme has served The Alpine Ski Club and many members of the ski mountaineering community well for over 45 years. In the early days transceivers, called autophons, were very expensive and few people used one. The Hire Scheme gave ski tourers access to that important piece of safety equipment – the transceiver – at minimal cost and affordable by all.

Of course, today all our members of the Club own a transceiver and all practicising ski mountaineers would not go into the mountains without one. So our Hire Scheme has served its key purpose in helping to educate and normalise the use of essential safety equipment. To this end, The Alpine Ski Club is closing down its transceiver hire scheme.
