Memorial Adventure Fund
The fund was set up by The Alpine Ski Club in memory of Irvine Aitchison and has been supported by gifts and bequests from many members. Awards are open to ASC members and to ski mountaineers and ski tourers from outside the ASC.
The object of the Fund is to support ski touring and ski mountaineering. This includes helping skiers to undertake expeditions and tours that are considered worthy of encouragement and help. Previous recipients of a MAF award have ski toured in Antarctica, Greenland, the Canadian Divide, Kyrgystan, Eastern Turkey, China, Georgia, Afghanistan, Alaska, Baffin Island, across the Pyrenees, Tajikistan and Mount Logan, amongst other areas. What’s next on your list?
It also includes supporting activities that benefit the knowledge base of safety in the field.
Alpine Ski Club Training Awards
Training awards are for members of The Alpine Ski Club only – either Aspirant or Ordinary members. The aim is to help members develop or refresh their ski touring and mountaineering skills, be confident in travelling through the mountains in winter and be strong, independent ski mountaineers who will be welcome members of any ski touring team.
ASC members can apply for an award for either:
- a training course organised by the ASC in Scotland, typically in mid-March, or
- self-organised training on an approved course in ski mountaineering
Conditions for offering grants
Full details need to be given of the nature and purpose of the activity for which assistance is sought, the grounds for applying for an award, details of skiing experience and ski mountaineering tours already undertaken, as well as mountaineering experience on foot.
