Awards are available for projects which further the knowledge and practice of safe movement in the mountains on skis.
ASCTA Are you wanting to develop your ski mountaineering skills?
The Alpine Ski Club Training Award helps people become self-sufficient in ski touring / ski mountaineering.

Applicants for the awards are expected to already be able to ski proficiently, using Alpine touring, Nordic or Telemark equipment.

The Eagle Ski Club also offer grants for ski touring.

 

Memorial Adventure Fund

The fund was set up by The Alpine Ski Club in memory of Irvine Aitchison and has been supported by gifts and bequests from many members. Awards are open to ASC members and to ski mountaineers and ski tourers from outside the ASC.

The object of the Fund is to support ski touring and ski mountaineering. This includes helping skiers to undertake expeditions and tours that are considered worthy of encouragement and help. Previous recipients of a MAF award have ski toured in Antarctica, Greenland, the Canadian Divide, Kyrgystan, Eastern Turkey, China, Georgia, Afghanistan, Alaska, Baffin Island, across the Pyrenees, Tajikistan and Mount Logan, amongst other areas. What’s next on your list?
It also includes supporting activities that benefit the knowledge base of safety in the field.

Alpine Ski Club Training Awards

Training awards are for members of The Alpine Ski Club only – either Aspirant or Ordinary members. The aim is to help members develop or refresh their ski touring and mountaineering skills, be confident in travelling through the mountains in winter and be strong, independent ski mountaineers who will be welcome members of any ski touring team.

ASC members can apply for an award for either:

  1. a training course organised by the ASC in Scotland, typically in mid-March, or
  2. self-organised training on an approved course in ski mountaineering

Conditions for offering grants

Full details need to be given of the nature and purpose of the activity for which assistance is sought, the grounds for applying for an award, details of skiing experience and ski mountaineering tours already undertaken, as well as mountaineering experience on foot.

Awards are granted on condition that successful applicants:

  1. endeavour to post social media notes during the activity,
  2. submit a short report on their sponsored activity within two months of completing the undertaking for which the award is made,
  3. undertake, if requested, to give a presentation to The Alpine Ski Club within two years of the end of the activity, and
  4. acknowledge the ASC’s support in any written material, video footage and social media posts.
