ski mountaineering lecture

ASC Spring Lecture 2019

Two adventurous trips by young people supported by ASC grants

Two groups of young ski mountaineers have received ASC Grants this year to enable them to pursue their ambitions – one team in the Pyrenees and one team in Iceland. Come along in mid June to the AC to hear how they fared.

Will, Seth and Cameron are three friends who love mountains, adventure and skiing. This year they want to do something big – to ski the thirty major 3000 metre peaks of the Pyrenees in thirty days, a challenge they believe has never been attempted before. Whatever happens, it should be a wild ride.

Three young scientists are planning to traverse the Vatnajökull icecap; following in the ski-trails of a pioneering 1932 expedition. They plan to document 87 years of glacial change, and push the scientific boundary with new techniques allowing future expeditions to identify glacier life at the microscopic level off-grid.

A light buffet supper is included and will served from 18:30 onwards. A cash bar is available.
