Celebrating the centenary of Arnold Lunn’s ascent of the Dom in 1917. A talk by Katie Nurton/Nick Putnam.
A team of ASC members followed in the footsteps of Arnold Lunn (the founder of The Alpine Ski Club) in June 2017. They made a valiant effort, but were unable to reach the summit on the day with skis. Though a successful summer ascent was achieved in alpine boots.
Conditions have changed somewhat since 1917; and the Festigrat ridge, a 60m cliff, is now a formidable obstacle particularly when carrying skis.
